Best cupcake recipes

The Best Cupcake Recipes you NEED to try in 2023!

It’s safe to say I have certainly made, and eaten, my fair share of cupcakes the past few years. I really love these little beauties, they are definitely up there as one of my favorite treats to bake. One of the main reasons why I love cupcakes so much is because of the endless possibilities for recipes and decorative designs. You can really let your creative side run wild and whup up some truly unique creations.

And the best thing about cupcakes? You don’t need to share your cupcake with anyone!

I have tried so many different cupcake flavors throughout the years and it’s fair to say, I love them all! This article took me far too long to write because I just couldn’t decide which are my all time favorites. After weeks of going backwards and forwards, I finally narrowed it down to my top eight best cupcake recipes and flavors.

vanilla cupcake

Classic Vanilla Cupcake

Spongy, soft and incredibly moist, nothing beats the OG vanilla cupcake.

A vanilla cupcake is a great one to start with if you are new to the world of cupcake baking. This recipe from Natasha’s Kitchen uses a mixture of plain flour and baking powder. I just use self-rising flour and omit the baking powder.

Paired with a smooth vanilla buttercream, the classic vanilla cupcake might be simple but it’s so delicious.

chocolate cupcakes

Chocolate Cupcake

Who doesn’t love a chocolate cupcake? Decadent and chocolatey, chocolate cupcakes are a fantastic little sweet treat that are super easy to make.

There are an abundance of recipes out there, but I tend to go for a Mary Berry classic, or a Cupcake Jemma recipe. Both make the most moist, most delicious chocolate cupcakes. Because they are so chocolatey, sometimes I just eat them as is. But, if you have the time, whip up a delicious chocolate buttercream and pipe it onto your cupcakes.

nutella ferrero rocher cupcake

Nutella Cupcakes

I love Nutella. I would have it on everything if I could! Nutella pancakes, waffles, crepes, ice cream, you name it!

But, what I love the most is Nutella cupcakes. I can just eat Nutella out of the jar, but adding it to cupcakes?! It’s a whole new level!

You have to try this Nutella cupcake recipe from Jane’s Patisserie.

Made with a decadent chocolate sponge, filled with raw hazelnuts and topped with a Nutella buttercream and Kinder Bueno bars, this recipe will not disappoint!

I sometimes like to sub the Kinder Bueno topping for a Ferrero Rocher which is equally as delicious on these Nutella inspired cupcakes.

Caramel Cornflake Cupcakes

This might sound like a strange combination but this cupcake is an absolute must!

The caramel cornflake cupcake consists of a moist chocolate sponge, a salted caramel buttercream, an oozy caramel drip and topped with caramel covered cornflakes. Talk about caramel overload!

What I love about this recipe is that the cornflakes are nice and chewy and not hard to bite into.

And, the sweetness of the caramel buttercream complements the chocolate sponge so well.

Marble Cupcakes

Vanilla or chocolate? Choosing between the two can be a struggle sometimes. But, why limit yourself to just one flavor when you can have both?

Marble cake is one of my favorite cakes to eat, so when I discovered Sally’s Baking Addiction recipe for a marble cupcake I instantly went to the kitchen and started whipping up these delicious treats.

You can take your marble cupcake game one step further by making a marble buttercream! Yum.

lemon meringue cupcakes

Lemon Meringue Cupcakes

Made with a simple vanilla sponge, filled with a tangy lemon curd and topped with toasted swiss meringue icing, these cupcakes are what dreams are made of.

I am a chocolate girl all the way, but sometimes, when I crave something more tart, these lemon meringue cupcakes are my absolute go to.

It also gives me an excuse to play around with the blow torch!

If you don’t have a blow torch already, I highly recommend getting your hands on one, it is a great tool for cupcakes. They are great for toasting marshmallows, swiss meringue and broiling a crème brulee. This fantastic recipe from Tasty never fails to amaze me. Give it a try!

maple and bacon cucpakes

Maple & Bacon Cupcakes

If you thought a cornflake caramel cupcake sounded weird, wait till you hear about this maple and bacon cupcake!

You would eat pancakes with bacon and maple syrup, right? Well, these cupcakes are sort of like that but a million times better. I don’t make these cupcakes often, but when I do, they barely make it out of the kitchen! They are that good!

To really understand how great these cupcakes are, you need to make them! So what are you waiting for?

best chocolate cupcake recipes

Cookies & Cream Oreo Cupcakes

If you know me, you’ll know that I am a sucker for anything Oreo flavored. When I crave an Oreo cupcake, I always turn to one of my favorite baker’s cookies and cream Oreo cupcake recipe; Cupcake Jemma.

This recipe makes 12 intense Oreo cupcake sponges, with creamy filling, an Oreo buttercream, topped with a drizzle of melted chocolate and Oreo pieces. What makes these cupcakes extra delicious is the black cacao powder. Black cacao gives these cupcakes a very deep and intense flavor.

If you can’t find black cacao, try and find a high quality cacao powder instead.
