Best Hand Mixer For Meringue

The Best Hand Mixer For Meringue in 2023

Meringues are the perfect fluffy, and light sweet treat. They can be piped, blowtorched, or made into silky icing that makes for beautiful decorations on your next show-stopping cake. There are so many things you can do with meringues that it will make your head spin just thinking about it.

Whipping up the perfect meringues is not as hard as it might first seem. That said, without a good and powerful hand mixer, you will never be able to get to those stiff peaks all bakers rave about. Of course, you could whisk egg whites by hand but who has the time (or energy) for that? If you are still whisking by hand I think it’s time for an upgrade!

I have been searching for the best hand mixer for meringue and I have found some applicants I would love to share with you. Take a look!

Can you make meringue with a hand mixer?

The good news is that hand mixers are great for making meringue, although to make meringue, you will need a mixer that can reach a high speed. Ideally, you want a stand mixer that you can set on high speed for 5 minutes with a balloon whisk attachment. The fast-rotating whisk beats air into the egg whites, forming what we know as stiff peaks. If you don’t have a stand mixer, your hand mixer does the job just as well.

Just make sure it is a powerful hand mixer that can reach high speeds.

The Best Hand Mixer For Meringue: My Top 5 Picks

Breville Handy Mix Scraper

The intrinsic design of Breville Handy Mix Scraper qualified this electric whisk for a spot on our list. Although it’s heavier than some of the other hand mixers, it makes up with its unique accessories.

It boasts 240 watts of power and it comes with 2 whisks, 2 dough whisks, and 2 resilient beaters. The beaters are dressed with rubber scrapers, ensuring that there is minimally clinging and clanging around the bowl when mixing. It is also a boss at whipping up a meringue in just a few seconds!

The pause button on this electric whisk is also a great bonus as you can add more ingredients mid-mix without having to restart the speed of your mixer. This is a great feature when making meringues as you can pause, pop in your sugar, and keep on whisking!

It might not be as powerful as other hand mixers, but it is sure gets the job done, especially for whipping egg whites for meringue. Did I mention that it is super quiet too? So, you can enjoy whisking in peace.

Pros

  • 240 watt motor
  • 2 whisks
  • Rubber beaters
  • Quiet mixing
  • Pause button
  • Detachable storing compartment

Cons

  • Rubber beater can wear

Cuisinart Power Advantage

Every brand has a noteworthy creation. For Cuisinart, it’s the remarkable Cuisinart Power Advantage Plus 9-Speed Handheld Mixer.

The power of this electric whisk is 220 watts is enough to happily whip up almost anything. The mechanical features are also an impressive addition, which allows you to control up to 9 different speed levels.

Three of the speeds are very slow, so you don’t need to worry about your ingredients flying all over the kitchen. But when it comes to whipping those fluffy and chewy meringues make sure you put the setting to 9 to get the maximum speed for whisking the egg whites.

The Cuisinart Power Advantage Plus 9-Speed Handheld Mixer also features 2 beaters, 2 whisks, 2 dough hooks, a spatula, and a recipe book. Bonus!

Pros

  • 200 watt motor
  • 9 speeds
  • Slow start
  • Includes spatula and recipe book
  • 3 colors to choose from
  • Clip-on case

Cons

  • The cord can get in the way

Braun MultiMix HM5130

Braun has a solid reputation for all of its electrical appliances and this electric whisk is no different. Whether you are a novice baker or a pro, the Braun Multimix is perfect for everyone. At 350 watts, the power of the Braun hand mixer is unrivaled by the other leading hand mixer which makes it the perfect mixer for getting those desirable stiff peaks for meringues.

What I really like about the MultiMix, however, is the inline motor. This clever design puts the weight of the mixer over the mixing attachment, rather than in your hand, making it feel like a lightweight hand mixer, despite its beef motor.

The Braun also comes with plenty of attachments; two beaters, two dough hooks, and two whisks, all of which are dishwasher friendly, making cleaning a walk in the park. The attachments are very sturdy and with the incredible power that this mixer possesses, you will not have any difficulty with mixing tougher ingredients.

It is a very solid, durable mixer and does not take up too much space in your kitchen.

Pros

  • 350 watt motor
  • Accessories dishwasher friendly
  • Includes small chopper

Cons

  • A little on the heavy side

Black & Decker MX600R

Because expensive doesn’t always mean better, allow me to share one of my favorite budget-friendly hand mixers ever. A lot of bakers think is actually better than some of the higher-end appliances out there.

It’s a 250W, 5-speed turbo hand mixer that is fast and efficient with everything you mix. Its nylon beaters take complete control and mix every inch of the bowl, leaving no ingredients untouched.

You get 2 helix beaters for your general mixing, 2 dough hooks for your bread doughs, and a whisk for light and aerated mixing. I actually find the helix beaters work really well with whisking up meringues rather than the singular whisk, but feel free to do some experimenting of your own! All of the accessories are dishwasher friendly as well as have a detachable compartment to store all of the tools without taking up too much space in your cupboard.

Black and Decker may be more widely known for its durable building tools but this hand mixer should not go unnoticed.

Pros

  • Budget friendly
  • 250 watt motor
  • Slow speed start
  • Nylon Beaters
  • Bowl rest feature
  • Accessories dishwasher friendly

Cons

  • Nylon can chip and wear over time

KitchenAid 5 Speed Hand Mixer

KitchenAid has built a great reputation for itself over the last few decades as a reliable manufacturer of stand and hand mixers, and the 9 speed Hand Mixer is no exception.

KitchenAid has a 7 speed and a 9 speed hand mixer as well. But, we found that the 5 speed mixer is the best for mixing white eggs. You need the most powerful hand mixer to whip meringues to stiff peaks and the 9 speed is the most powerful hand mixer Kitchenaid has.

The KitchenAid turbo beater is designed without a center post, meaning there is less matter build-up, a common issue facing a lot of hand mixers.

Another great feature which I really like is that you can choose to lock the cord to the left or the right side. This allows you to approach your mixing bowl from any angle. It’s also super helpful if you are left-handed (like me) and are sick of the power cord getting in your way all the time.

Pros

  • Stylish
  • Turbo beater
  • Lock in cord

Cons

  • At 108 watts, it is not as powerful
  • Expensive
